Sharp Zaurus C3100 Tetsu Kernel and Intel PXA270 Documentation
Okay don't give me any flak about the lack of information and style
on this page. I just set it up at 3.11AM when I should have gone
to bed because I felt this was a little thing I could do to help out
others since I've gotten more things working from other people
who bothered to spend some of their time and I'm sure they didn't get
much thanks either.
Anyway, to update your C3100 to the last Tetsu kernel before his site went down which WAS at http://tetsu.homelinux.org,
just do the following:
- Download Original Sharp Linux Kernel for C3100 (zImage-C3100.bin 1.2Mb).
- This is for backup purposes.
- Something weird happens, fix it with this.
- Wanna go back to original? Fix it with this.
- Don't cry when you find out you needed this and didn't download it and I took down this page.
- Download Tetsu Linux Kernel v18b for C3100 (zImage-v18b-C3100.bin 1.2Mb).
- Download Sharp Updater Script for C3100 (updater.sh.c3100 2.1kb).
- Download Tetsu Linux Kernel Modules v18b for C3100 (kernel-modules_v18b_arm.ipk 719kb).
- Make sure you don't have ANYTHING ELSE on your CF or SD card you're going to use to update your kernel.
- That may not be necessary but if nothing else MAKE SURE YOU DON'T HAVE initrd.img ON THE CARD.
- You've been warned. If you disobey, you get what's coming to you so :P
- Rename zImage-v18b-C3100.bin to zImage and place it on your CF/SD card.
- Rename updater.sh.c3100 to updater.sh and place it on your CF/SD card.
- Put the CF/SD card into your Zaurus.
- Turn off your Zaurus and disconnect the power cable and any other cables.
- Unlock the battery compartment and take the battery out for 5 seconds or so (+/- 5 seconds depending on the phase of the moon).
- Put battery back in and lock the compartment.
- Plug
your Zaurus into the AC power. This is important, the Zaurus will
refuse to update without it. Well, at least mine didn't care to do a
file system check without it.
- Hold the [OK] key on the keyboard or on the back of the
Zaurus and turn it on with the [On/Off] button. Are you HOLDING the
[OK] button?? Hope so.
- You should see the maintenance menu. [Hey, quit holding the
OK button, you're here already] Select option 4 which is Japanese for
Update/Flash the ROM (not that I can read Japanese, just you'd figure
they'd label things right)
- Select either 1. CF or 2. SD depending on where your update files are.
- Pray.
- Drink a Famous Olde Tyme Barq's Root Beer for me.
- Pray again.
- Confirm to proceed with the update by selecting Y.
- Now
if you didn't listen and forgot to plug in your AC adapter you'll be
getting a complaint from the Zaurus and get a menu in Japanese that you
probably can't read.
- Too bad for you that you've got to guess. I think I chose option 1. I can't remember. Hey, you've got a 50/50 chance right?
- Maybe you'll listen next time.
- When
the system is done updating, turn off your Zaurus and turn it back on
again by unlocking the battery compartment and taking out the battery.
This was the only way I could get my Zaurus to turn off, maybe you'll
be lucky and you can just hit the [On/Off] button. Maybe you won't be.
- After your system boots up [Don't you just love the Tux logo? Awww how cute.] You can install the kernel module ipk file.
- That should be: ipkg install kernel-modules_v18b_arm.ipk
- Or just use the gui installer and make sure you put the file in the Documents/Install_Files directory somewhere.
- You should be good to go.
- Quit reading this and go have fun.
You can write me if you want: earl AT servercommandos DOT net
Actually I would appreciate if you downloaded stuff from here or got your
kernel update here if you might send me a lil note saying thanks and perhaps
where you're from and what you do. You don't have to but it's the least you
could do after leeching off my server. :D
Intel PXA270 ARM Processor Info
This is just stuff I downloaded from Intel. Interesting stuff really.
This stuff was put up by Paul F. De La Cruz, aka, Polito.
